ROOTED IN GRACE

Podcasts & Blogs

A southern kitchen garden at the turn of the season — dried, spent summer bean vines on a trellis at one side and small fresh fall lettuce and kale seedlings newly planted in the soil, with a seed packet resting on the ground.

A Time to Slow Down: Why Rooted in Grace Is Moving to One Episode a Week

The garden is about to move into a slower season. And after this summer, I've decided I am too.

"For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven." — Ecclesiastes 3:1

God did not make a world of endless summer

We are coming out of the hardest, hottest stretch of the whole gardening year. Here in Zone 9 a turn is coming, and fall is a real season — a genuinely fruitful one, more fruitful than spring in a lot of ways. But it is a quieter one. Smaller. Slower. Less frantic scrambling to keep things alive, and more tending a few good things well.

He built it that way on purpose. A time to plant like mad, and a time to slow down. A time to push, and a time to rest. A time for every matter under heaven — including a slower one.

If you are wondering what that actually looks like in the dirt this month, I walk through it here: the September gardening calendar for Zone 9, and what to plant in your Zone 9 fall garden right now.

The honest part

I have watched myself do to my own life exactly what I did to my garden this summer: overextend, take on more than one woman can faithfully tend, and then call the exhaustion commitment.

This whole podcast is about slowing down — about gardening, and living, inside the limits God actually gave us. And I can't keep asking you to do that while I quietly burn myself out making it.

So here is the change

Starting in September, Rooted in Grace moves to one thoughtful episode every Tuesday. A full Core teaching one week, a Rooted Moment the next, and back again. And to make each one richer, I'm adding more real, hands-in-the-dirt garden teaching to every Core episode — something practical you can carry straight out to your own beds.

Please hear what this is, and what it isn't. Nothing is going away. Tuesdays are still ours. This isn't me stepping back from you — it's me choosing to still be here, steady, a year and two years from now, instead of flaming out by Christmas.

It's me practicing out loud the exact thing we talk about every single week: faithful is not the same as frantic. A slower cadence doesn't disqualify the work any more than a slower season disqualifies the garden. Some of the most fruitful things grow in the quiet ones.

One faithful thing today

Name one thing in your own life you have been doing at a pace you cannot sustain — and ask God what it would look like to do that thing faithfully instead of frantically.

Then leave me one word: the thing you're going to start doing slower. I read every single one.

There's a time for everything. This is our time to slow down — together — and grow something that lasts.
