Rooted in Grace Episode 81: When Spring Feels Like a Sprint

Spring is supposed to feel like life returning.

But if you’re anything like me… it can also feel like everything speeding up at once.

The garden wakes up.
The schedule fills up.
The expectations creep in.

And suddenly, what should feel like growth… feels like pressure.

This week—right after Easter—I felt it deeply.

After days of cooking, hosting, church services, and pouring out, I found myself standing in the middle of something beautiful…

and completely exhausted.

The Garden Was Thriving… But My Soul Was Tired

Seeds are sprouting everywhere right now.

Beans pushing through the soil.
Cucumbers unfolding.
Tomatoes flowering.

And my tromboncino squash? Absolutely wild and glorious—climbing strong, curling, alive.

But alongside all that beauty?

Weeds.
Pests.
Decisions.
Pressure to keep up.

Because when everything is growing… everything feels urgent.

The Moment That Changed Everything

Then it rained.

A steady, soaking rain.

I stood on the porch and watched it fall over the garden—and something in me quieted.

Because I realized:

This is what the Holy Spirit feels like.

Not forced.
Not rushed.
Not dependent on me getting everything right.

Just poured out.

And everything responded.

The Truth We Forget in Spring

“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” — Galatians 5:25

Keeping in step means this:

You are not setting the pace.

God is.

And your role is not to sprint ahead…

but to walk with Him.

Why We Feel Overwhelmed (Even When Things Are Good)

Jesus says in Mark 4 that the seed grows…

even while the farmer sleeps.

That’s hard for us.

Because we don’t just want to plant.

We want to control the outcome.

So we:

  • overwork

  • overthink

  • over-manage

  • over-carry

And we end up exhausted…

not from obedience—

but from trying to do what only God can do.

3 Gentle Practices to Help You Get Rooted Again

1. Stay in the moment longer than feels natural

Don’t rush past what God is doing.

2. Name what you’re planting

Clarity reduces overwhelm.

3. Discern instead of reacting

Not everything needs fixing.

A Gentle Invitation

If your soul feels tired this season…

you don’t need a better plan.

You need a place to land.

That’s exactly why I created the Rooted in Grace devotional—
a simple, grounded way to return to God in the middle of your real life.

And if you’re feeling especially overwhelmed, the Rooted Reset is coming—
a gentle pause to help you realign and breathe again.

Final Thought

You are not behind.

You are not late.

Growth is already happening.

Even now.
